Horn honking & lights flashing at random

Asked by Jan 03, 2016 at 01:22 PM about the 2012 Chevrolet Cruze 1.4T 2LT Sedan FWD

Question type: General

When my car is sitting lately it randomly honks mostly in the wee hours of the
morning. The lights flash at the same time.  No indicators on dash.  What's up
and how can I stop it?

My first thought was an issue with security system or problem with bcm? I couldn't find the info I wanted in my database?

What does bcm mean?

bcm/Body control module. Can you check for applicable trouble codes? Some of the national brand auto stores will check codes for free.

BCM is the abbreviation for Body Control Module. Sounds like the security system is very sensitive. My '00 Grand Prix is like that. A loud motorcycle, clap of thunder, or even a strong gust of wind will trigger the security system. You may be able to reset the sensitivity level of the security system. On my Grand Prix there's three levels. Check your owner's manual for the programming procedure. In the mean time try locking the car with the power door lock switch on the door panel instead of using the fob. With my Grand Prix using the fob sets the alarm. Using the door lock switch on the door does not set the alarm. HTH. -Jim
