1999 300m has suddenly smelling of gas, inside, outside no sign of a leak

possible smell coming from behind intake,  gas fumes.  unable to see a leak,  only one spot  where it smells the

Well I know you can't see the leak, but if you can smell gasoline, there IS a leak. You'll need to address this soon. You don't want an engine fire anytime soon. If it's behind the intake, I suspect one of the fuel lines or injectors are leaking. Have a mechanic diagnose it and get it fixed before driving too far.
