It could be a bazillion things ,,, you have to elaborate ie; black or white smoke, have you had work done on the engine recently ,, what other problems have you had, how many miles does the car have?

If you have a lot of white smoke coming out the exhaust and it smells sweet, then you have a blown head gasket. If it is black smoke coming out the exhaust, then it is a fuel issue. Blue smoke is burning oil.
