Can a crushed drive shaft be replaced with a recycled drive shaft on my 2002 Buick Rendezvous AWD

My drive shaft was crushed in an accident. My mechanic tells me they do not make recycled or refurbished drive shafts to replace it with. Is this correct? My insurance won't approve a used one if it hasn't been recycled.

I don't see a listing for one. Ask your local auto parts store if they can send out a driveshaft to be rebuilt. If they can, get a used one from the junk yard and have them send it out to be rebuilt. I work for NAPA and we do that very thing for customers. Especially if something really old (40s or 50s for example) comes in. Honestly I think that the insurance company's real problem here is that the vehicle is 13 years old. Insurance companies hate paying out a claim on an older model! HTH. -Jim
