BIG RED BRAKE LIGHT
when traveling @ speeds greater than 50 mpg BRAKE LIGHT appears with loud dinging alert until car is shut down and re-started any ideas as to what is causing this. car drives and responds great @ all times.
Does your yellow ABS (Anti-lock Brake System) come on too? If so, you're being warned that the ABS system is disabled because the computer found a problem AND in a panic stop situation your brakes WILL lock up causing you to possibly spin out of control! HTH. -Jim
If your dashboard BRAKE light is on when your emergency brake is off, it usually means you need to add brake fluid. Check the level and add some fluid as needed. If the light still doesn't go away, you should probably take your car in to have the brake system properly diagnosed.
Could be an issue with the hand/emergency brake cable or sensor switch. Could also be as suggested above with the brake fluid being too low. The brake fluid level you can easily check yourself, but the rest should be checked by any local garage with a lift.
I have done all of the above to my 2003 model. Even replaced one wheel bering (which had already been replaced by Buick @ 40,000 miles because of the faulty ones installed at the factory). I have replaced pads and rotors. Have had the brakes inspected by a reputable mechanic who verified they were in perfect working order. This has gone on for over two years, maybe three. All I want to know is how to disconnect the annoying signal (ding, ding, ding)l even if the light stays on. The ABS hasn't worked since Buick replaced the front wheel berings in 2006. I have had to make emergency stops on many occasions, without a problem. Is there a way to disable that alarm?
