ECU

Asked by Jul 21, 2016 at 01:39 PM about the 2005 Volkswagen Beetle Dark Flint Edition Convertible

Question type: General

I have a 2005 VW Beetle with 2.0 engine.  My  mechanic said I need a new ECU.  He is
leery of any besides factory.  How reliable are rebuilt ones, and where can you find them

As they are so expensive from the factory I would try to find a running unit at a wrecking yard that has matching numbers first just to confirm that that is the actual problem, and if it is then you have some time to save up and purchase a new one, the reason he is suspicious of remanufactured units is he has had problems with them, as has most everyone.

That is what I have decided. Found one online for $225. Thanks for your help
