Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2011 Nissan rogue a/c went out suddenly. Low pressure
a/c line read over 100 psi, so didn't recharge. High line read
ok. Compressor clutch won't engage, hesitant on jumping
clutch. Bled low line til down to 40 psi last night. Came
home today and psi is over 100 again, low side. Fuse is fine,
have read relay is inside computer. What else can I check
myself? Was thinking pressure sensor, or maybe blockage?

When the compressor is not engaged it is common for the pressure on the low side to b 100psi and over. This is because the compressor is not compressing the freon. Check the low pressure switch. And now since u bled the freon out u will have to recharge the system once the compressor is working again.

Ok, with the multimeter, what do I measure it on? And with the car ignition on and a/c max, or off. Sorry, have read conflicting things online, and want to do it correctly

First check all the fuses for an a/c clutch fuse, make sure the fuse is good. The owners manual is helpful here cause it lists what each fuse protects. With a good fuse, proceed as follows. The low pressure switch is usually only a two terminal connector. It's the same wire the switch just interrupts the current. With the connector off the switch, take a small piece of wire and jump the terminals. Then start the vehicle turn the a/c on and see if the fans come on and see if the a/c compressor clutch is engaged. If the fans r on but the a/c clutch isn't, the clutch is bad. If the clutch and fans r on then the low pressure switch is bad.

Fuses were good, even traded them out to be sure. Took wire and connected 2 prongs (there were 3, not sure it mattered which ones), started car, a/c max, clutch did not engage, fans on

Ok then with the a/c on, and engine running, take the multi meter and find the wire with the power, usually 12v. Put the red wire of the multi meter in the power wire, then test the other 2 wires, if u get a reading in either one then the clutch is bad, if no reading then take the wire and put one end in the terminal where the red wire from the multimeter was in. Then insert the other end in the other wires one at a time. If the fans come on check the other wire to see if the clutch comes on. If the clutch does not engage then it is bad. I think one wire runs the fans and the other wire the clutch.

Ok, as instructed, found power wire, 5v. When put other probe on other sites, also received 5v on multimeter. So clutch is bad, correct?

Start the car, turn a/c on. U have to have the black wire of the multimeter to a ground, part of the body or a nearby unpainted bolt. Then test all 3 wires with the red probe, there should b more than 5v for the power wire. Keep the red probe in the power wire, test the other 2 wires, if power is found then the clutch is bad, if no power. Put the jumper where the power is and test the other 2 wires, if the clutch engages then the switch is bad, if the clutch does not engage then the clutch is bad. The car has to b running and a/c on.

Car running, a/c on, found power wire. Left red probe on power wire, put black probe, one by one, on other 2 wires, both showing voltage
