Is there a timing belt on the 2010 Dodge Charger 3.5L V6
One mechanic quoted me a price to replace timing belt and change water pump at the
same time. Firestone told me I had a timing chain and did not have to worry about
changing water pump either. Who is right?
Most all V-6s and V-8s have timing chains. A leaking water pump is sometimes a tricky thing to catch. They have a weep hole in them and sometimes they will leak n sometimes they won't. If its leaking at the mounting gasket(s) or the impeller shaft it will be a constant leak. Have it looked at by a REPUTABLE mechanic.
At this time I have no water pump problems. My main concern was to find out if I have a timing chain or belt on my car. I understand if I have a timing chain, it wont need changing but a timing belt does. The confusion was when one mechanic told me I had a timing belt and the other said I had a timing chain.
Sound like that mechanic was trying to up sell you on a big pricey job. Your car should have a chain.
According to my info. The 2006-2010 dodge chargers 3.5L v6 engines are timing belts. They should be replaced at 105k. And yes water pump replacement is advised when replacing the timing belt. Oh this is an interference engine. That means if belt breaks or jumps time major engine damage may occur. Have it replaced on time.
Dandyoun is right it has a timing belt. I guess I'm just used to GM vehicles with timing chains in V-6's
