Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The engine won't start at all.  I was told that the a/c pump & pulley locked up and was wondering if I install a shorter belt can I bypass the a/c as a temporary fix until I can get it to a garage.  It is a 2.4L 4cyl DOHC.
