I have 2010 f150 fuel door will not stay closed. any suggestions besides bring it to repair shop no visible sign of defect does it stay closed with spring that is not viable?
Looks to be a common problem. You have to push a plastic pivot pin back into place. The pin also holds a spring that allows the door to snap open when the catch is released. If you can reach the pin to push it back into place without removing the door assembly, great. If not, and to permanently fix it, you have to get the fuel door assembly removed. Remove the outside cover by lifting a tab up on the inside. Then remove three 8mm bolts that attach the neck to the door assembly. You then have to reach behind the inner fender to detach the plastic clips holding the assembly in place. Once out, you'll be able to push the pin into it's proper place, and secure it there by drilling a hole in it and running a cotter pin in it. This fix also helps with drooping fuel doors as well.
