New power steering pump and new serpentine belt. Now car sometimes
squeals. Mechanic says I need a new AC pump. Does this sound right?

If you don't trust the guy take it to another shop, let them diagnose the problem, then go with whoever you like. When it comes to AC, like transmissions, go with a shop that specializes in those.

Would the AC pump make the car squeal? If not what could it be?


If it has a bad bearing, you tend to notice a pulley going bad. Put a socket on the tensioner and loosen the serpentine belt, then spin the pulley by hand and feel for any play. It could just be a bad pulley with the compressor still being good but those are usually sold as a unit, most places won't bother trying to replace just a pulley on the AC. A shop that caters to AC repairs might set you straight on just what needs to be repaired.
