Oil light on 2008 Sebring Convert with Flex fuel

Asked by azdvldog Apr 30, 2017 at 12:27 AM about the 2008 Chrysler Sebring Touring Convertible FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Engine MIL went on, was P 0201. Changed & ran
great (3mpg better) then P 0201 AGAIN.  Changed
& worked again. Wasnt driving car as I had vacay
but started it daily & ran it for about 5mins to keep
fluids moving & battery charged. One day started
making LOUD ticking noise & oil lamp came on.
Checked level, was good. Was Xmas time so left
for following month to take to dealer. He kept it a
MONTH but said my car was fine after a week but I
told him to recheck. After 2 more weeks he said I
had P 0201, backfire & oil lamp but no ticking
noise. Week later went in to see svc mgr &
mechanic. They changed out injector (P 0201) &
changed oil. Got ticking noise to start but was
random. Finally said car was "ok" so I picked it up &
1mi down the road oil lamp comes on. More
driving later & I get 6 "chimes" & oil lamp with
LOUD ticking noise. Soubds like engine with no oil
& increases with engine rpm (reminds me of
playing card in bike spokes). Any ideas? Going
back to dealer on Monday.

There sounds like a oil pressure issue if the engine is rattling, knocking like that. They should drop the oil pan and check the condition of the bearing on the crankshaft. It may be also that the oil pump is failing. You'll have to see on Monday.
