Fuel pump repair changed fuel tank capacity?

Asked by Mar 24, 2015 at 10:32 PM about the 2007 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer V8

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Recently had my fuel pump replaced on my 2007 explorer. Now have my fuel tank
capacity reduced by 25-35%. Mechanic said my computer which indicates miles to empty
needed to be re-calibrated and told me to check the miles to empty against my fuel
gauge. Gauge and computer agree with each other .  So any suggestions?  I used to be
able to put 18-19 gallons in the tank when filling up, now it only holds about 12 gallons.

By swapping tank to smaller tank, you want get the same average mile from a full tank,as say per tank in and explorer you was getting at least 350 per tank, now with smaller tank, you will be getting 250 per tank, guages are right to the capacity of the tank,it all lead,s down to what you were use to before the change.
