Only loud static comes through the radio

Asked by TweetyMom Feb 02, 2020 at 03:20 PM about the 2012 Ford Focus SE Hatchback

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have 2012 Ford Focus and the radio has stopped
working but LOUD static comes thru all of my
speakers. No radio sound as in a station, voices,
not even the AUX will work but every time a door is
opened, like when I get in the car, high pitched
static (and I can not explain how loud it is!!) but the
static comes thru the speakers and won’t stop,
after starting the car and driving, if it does it’s after
15-20 mins after driving. Can anyone help? Took it
to my repair shop and they had no idea not even
Best Buy has ever heard of a radio doing this or
anything like this issue.

No answer - but having the same problem with my daughter's 2012 Focus. You can even hear noises sometimes when the car is completely shut off and locked. One guy on a related thread said heating the circuit board to reset the solder fixed it - but no idea which circuit board or how to get to it. I'm considering pulling the fuse on the audio amplifier and see if that quiets things down. She hardly uses the radio anyway except to play music from her iPhone via the aux cord, so if disabling the amp stops the noise I'll get her a cheap USB-powered bluetooth speaker to replace the radio. And don't get me started on other issues with the 2012 Focus...... A truly amazing transmission design........ :-( Worst lemon we've ever owned

Just started experiencing this with my 2012 Ford Fiesta. It is so loud. I now drive with my EarPods in and I can hear the static through that sometimes.

Been happening on my 2013 focus for maybe the last year or so, but only an occasional pop causing the radio to cut, then it would come back a minute or so later. Now since christmas, I get loud crackling static for my entire drive. Sometimes it starts from the passenger side and central speakers, but now I’m starting to hear it from my back speakers too. It’s very startling & I’m worried it could cause an accident from making me jump! I find it makes the whole radio/sound control fault too, sometimes after a bad pop the radio/sound controls won’t work at all, leaving me with a blank screen unless I restart the car. I haven’t been able to find a solid solution for this & it’s driving me up the wall!!

I've had the same issue with my 2012 Ford Focus SE. I accidentally came across this easy fix... IT WORKED!!
