How do I remove and replace a right passenger side taillight on a 2012 Mazda 5?

By going in behind it, take the carpet down to gain access, and there should be some plastic wing nuts of some sort to remove, then the lens comes straight out the rear.

I have removed the taillight assembly but cannot get to the place where you attach the wiring harness for the light to the wiring of the car. The entire interior is all molded plastic that doesn't seem to be removable without taking off everything.
