Radiator Fan & Temp Gauge

Asked by Guru9C2QFH Aug 06, 2021 at 07:47 AM about the 2011 Ford F-150 Lariat SuperCab

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Was losing minimal coolant and fan would occasionally come on high until I
replenished the coolant level -- but the temp gauge remained steady at just
below half.  I thought it was venting out through the reservoir so I changed
the thermostat and now the problem has intensified!  After the thermostat
change, the radiator fans now come on at about 1/2 on the temp gauge AND
the temp gauge then fluctuates between mid-point and almost max.  So, I
completely evac-ed the coolant system and then used a vacuum method for
replenishing the coolant.  But, the engine doesn’t seem to be running hot.
Bottom line to the question is:  What would make the temp gauge increase,
and the fans come on also, when the coolant is now remaining steady in the
reservoir?

1 Answer

check to see if you have the air conditioner on or off. If it is on it can be the temp sensor in the refrigeration or the distribution valve mounted on the fire wall on the port of passenger side is plugging
