Kia dealer service rep indicates my 2011 optima needs new engine due to lack of oil changes. He only checked the dip stick and oil was slugy. There is knocking noice. He said the bearing was shot. He did not tear down. Q: What are my options when I take my car to Non dealer Kia mechanic and tell him him I do not want to replace the engine. Even if I pay the non kia mech to tear down to evaluate. I want to ask him to consider what????? other than replacement?? thanks. Oh, the Kia dealer is right about lack of oil changes.The car is my sons and he lives in Tampa and did have oil changes on schedule. Once a year etc,.i have now learned. Thanks p^$$ed 0ff Dad.

I'd runs some Seafoam through the engine, change the oil and just drive it. Then do regular oil changes at 5K miles per year. Is there a problem with the way it drives/works?
