This is a response to a posed question Tuesday 8/30
I am blown away that you took the time to write back to me about this. It is
really quite considerate of you.
The question I posed is for my (newly bought, don't have the registration yet)
2011 Sierra with the 5.3 , but with over 200,000 miles. The people from
whom I bought it is a father /son company where Dad gets the cars and the
son is a mechanic. The business are separate, but in the same building, and
with whom I've worked for over 5 years. They're honest, trustworthy and
told me they'd buy it back if I wanted.
I really don't want to : I couldn't afford this vehicle if it had lower mileage,
and it looks brand new.
They worked all day trying to come up with a solution, by driving it around
and talking to other mechanics who work on nothing but these vehicles and
are still flummoxed by what's happening.
The problem is intermittent: 1 mile from my house, or 10 miles from one
location the gauge will drop and the alarm will sound. There's no tappet
noise, no smoke or excess engine vibration--it just hums along. The water
temp stays constant at 210. It starts right up regardless of it either being
cold, or just having been run, and the issue doesn't immediately occur; it
can happen anywhere along the drive but is continuous and does not shut
off until you shut it down.
Don't know if any of this helps, but they've even suggested installing a
rebuilt engine which to me sounds excessive, but then I don't know a thing
about this stuff and they're trying to make it work for me.
What do you think?
Read this, it points to the oil pressure switch or the screen underneath it is clogged......http://www.silveradosierra.com/vortec-5-3l-v8/low-oil-pressure-fault-issue-t19271.html
