Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So I checked the oil BC I had an appointment on it
but decided to see maybe if I could find something
and there was just bit of yellow on end cap and
middle of dipstick on the circular thing but
mechanic did pressure test and oil was fun and no
leaks but I asked him bout the chugging and he
said he's not a vw expert so was wondering if
anyone had an idea BC that's not very helpful. It is
colder now here and that's when I've noticed the
problems. Thank you

When you see that white or yellowish residue its often around the seals for the caps. this is often due to a bad seal on those caps alowing air in. With the high heat and air mixing it crates that residue. So try this Take your oil cap off remove the rubber and either clean it and flip it over or replace the whole cap. also clean the area around where the seal sits . Clean the seal on the dip stick as well. this will reduce that residue. as towards chuging on start up that can be a number of issues. A few i can think of is a weak battery if it only does it after its sat for a few hrs. others would be a vacum leak or loose intake manifold. Most vw techs know that the intake manifold will vibrate loose after a while so they will often do it for free during a service if you ask. other issues could be the oil pan may have some sludge in it and removing the pan and cleaning it would be helpfull tho is not very comman to happen. During cold weather if you use thicker oil it makes the engine harder to turn over on cold starts so going from full synthetic 5W40 to 5W 30 during the winter time can help cold starts. These engines also aprently require a good amount of drive time before parking it as i found out with my 2012 VW jetta it built up water in the fluids so i was told due to not driving it long enough to evaperate the water that acumilates from a cold start ((had a 2inch block of water in my oil pan)) if the oil light comes on this is likely an issue. Anouther thing to check is the vacum pump it is located on the drivers side under the throtal body it some times will blow the seal during the winter and start causing vacum issues and oil to leak out. most that i have said tho can be easily checked by yourself if you want to save some money if the oil light does come on have the oil filter checked if ice does form in the pan it will suck that paper filter in and cause a heavy imprint on the inside part of the filter. thats what happened to mine.
