I have a 97 Cadillac deville with the northstar v8 it sat for about 2 years then I got it its was over heating
I went over everything its not the
heater core or the radiator or any of
the lines well I noticed it had a tiny
leak where the water pump housing
bolts too the heads then I noticed it
was getting coolant into the oil so i
think its a head gasket but not sure
because it could be the head. I'm
willing too do the work but I was told
buy someone that you can't get the
heads off without dropping the motor
and trans out is that true ?
I know my way around cars pretty well I've done it my whole life I just want too see how much work its going to be
Yes, it's true. The engine, with the transmission, must be removed from the bottom. You cannot remove the heads from the top either. To have the head gaskets done correctly, including installing the buttons for the head bolts, you're looking at upwards of $3500. In my opinion, if it's the head gaskets, it's not worth fixing. Those motors are junk aluminum heads .headbolts strip out .
Junk the car...
they are a piece of junk. i think they do these things to get money from the consumer.any one could have come up with a better idea than this radiator crap.
