My ac will not take freon

be sure you are putting Freon in the correct port, you have 2 valves a high vale and low valve be sure you ae putting it in the high valve, also sometimes if its been a while between maintenances the valve can build up debris behind it and clog it up, sometimes you have to disconnect the top ( high valve) and clear debris from screen/filter.

Best to have the professionals add the refrigerant, it has to be added to at certain pressures to work properly, plus they can fix the leak as to why you lost some in the first place.
