Steering

Asked by Christopher Jan 25, 2016 at 10:35 AM about the 2011 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD LT Extended Cab RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Steering on my truck went out the last snowstorm, after
getting stuck in snow several times.  Plowed for 33 hrs
with no power steering, truck is almost impossible to turn
sometimes unless rolling in 'n''. When you open hood
there is some fluid sprayed around in there. 130,000 miles
on truck never changed brakes yet, only changed tires
twice. Oil change every 3000 miles with mobile 1 and
filter. But never changed diff. Fluid Or did coolant flush.
Original plugs and wires. I do not have upgraded
alternator and additional battery recomended when i
purchased plow.  When not pulling trailers up to 14000 lbs
, and ripping shrubs out,  its plowing snow. I assume my
power steering went?

You see fluid all over and no power steering. So I suspect you blew the power steering hoses. Have them replaced and refill. All the other stuff you mentioned it would be wise to have all the fluids changed out.

Other than fixing the power steering you really need to do a tuneup and maintenance on your truck. What brand plow do you use? I have found that I don't need an extra battery when plowing and I change blade positions a lot.
