Chevy Equinox transmission died

Asked by Feb 18, 2017 at 07:00 PM about the 2011 Chevrolet Equinox LT1 AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

We have a 2011 equinox with 91,000 miles on it and
we're just told we have to replace the transmission
for $4700. This is the first car I've owned in my life
that has had such a short life span. Is it customary
for the transmission to die on a 6 year old
vehicle???? Obviously a surprise- would appreciate
learning if there are other owners with similar
issues. Chevy says it's past the 5 year mark for the
Powertrain warranty, even though it's under the
100k miles....

Welcome to the wonderful world of GM!! This is typical. I had an '02 Chevy Impala that was on it's second transmission at 88,000 miles. It quit again and I got lucky. It was under warranty because I had the first transmission replaced by my local Chevy Dealer. I got it fixed and immediately got rid of it. I have an '08 Mercury Grand Marquis now! My Sister's '07 Silverado transmission quit at about 110,000 miles too. Financially she can't afford to get rid of it so she fixed it. I'd say fix it as cheaply as possible and trade it in. Maybe get a good used transmission (with some kind of warranty) from the junkyard. Yes, Chevy is telling you the truth. Powertrain warranty was 5 years or 100,000 miles. Whichever comes first. Same - my equinox had 55K miles on it when the transmission went out. labor was expensive because of such a small place to work in... sooo frustrating...

No it is not customary...and I am sick of the US making cars that won't even put up 100k HOW EMBARRASSED YOU MUST BE.....i suggest that you can simply copy or ''learn'' from the Japanese get it done or get out of the car business
