Is it worth it?

Asked by EisForDesign Aug 31, 2019 at 10:28 PM about the 2011 Subaru Legacy 2.5i Premium AWD

Question type: Shopping & Pricing

I'm looking at a 2011 Subaru Legacy 2.5i Premium with
96k miles. It has a clean, one owner carfax and is certified
preowned. They want $9,000 for it. The miles are higher
than I wanted to go since I'm looking for something to
replace my 2007 Volkswagen Eos with 145k miles since it
is starting to have engine issues. I need something reliable
that I really like because I'm a commuter student and I will
practically be spending half my time in my car for the next
two years, zipping back and forth between home, work and
classes. Thank you for your help!

Check the value on kbb.com. Only you can decide if the miles are too high for your situation.

An '11 Leg Prem for $9k should have recent rubber and brake rotors and a clean rear exhaust. It uses the older SOHC 2.5i so I'd replace with iridium plugs and check the t-belt carefully (pry open the left upper plastic cover to look down there). I'd have a preference for a '13-14 to get the newer and chain-driven DOHC 2.5i for not much more money. (Disclaimer: I have a '16.5 Leg Prem w/ EyeSight for only $15.5k for sale.) Use NADA.com for a better estimate of value than KBB, who will overweight the lower mileage of this 8-9 year old. Good luck. Modern Legacys are solid choices. Just realize you'll have to get in there in a year or two to swap out the t-belt, and get the iridiums installed so you don't have to worry about misfires from a decapitated plat plug (endemic!).
