You have a issue with the trac system and its going into low power mode affecting your power steering.

Gm has a special warranty coverage up to 150000 miles on the power steering motor and torque sensor. I just had mine fixed for free today under the warranty but you have to take it to a gm dealer and make them look up the warranty

Under 150,000 miles OR less then 10 years old. If you have a 2010 your scred, GM will not cover it even if it is 1 day older. I just went through this.

Mine does the exact same thing. Took it in and they say it’s not what’s covered under the warranty and are really vague about what’s wrong but want 1200 to fix it. No thanks

I have a 2008 Chevy Malibu LTZ. Same thing happening with mine - ESC off light and Power Steering come on on dashboard. Steering wheel very hard to turn. I checked my VIN# because I've been reading about a lot of recalls. The car is over 10 years old but I am well under the 150,000 mile mark.

I have a 2010 Chevy Malibu. It does the same. I just turn the car off and then restart it . It seems to work.

Same thing happened to me. Went to manual steering. Turned car off and back on, no problems since. But now that I know there is a recall, I will get it fixed. Btw love my Malibu...best driving car I've had. And I've had alot of cars. I had a 2010 a gew years back so I went to buy another but had to get 2009. Want to upgrade to a 2022. Thanks for answers. Love this when bzck yard mechanics cant rip you off!!
