Car won't accelerate! HELP!

Asked by Jul 10, 2013 at 09:20 PM about the 2011 Ford Escape Limited

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My car seemed to be running just fine.  It was overdue for an oil change (about 3,000 miles over) and on my way to get the oil changed the car just stopped accelerating.  I had to pull over and shut it off.  Waited about 3 seconds and turned the car back on but the vehicle really hesitated like it wasn't going to turn over.  When it did start it was running fine again.  The guy at the quick lube said the air filter was pretty dirty so I changed that, got the oil changed, and got my fuel system cleaned out.  Mechanic said the fuel filter looked fine.  Could this unexpected problem have been caused by a dirty air filter??  I've also noticed a few times when I take it out of park and put it into drive it seems to "kick"/lurch?  Any suggestions?  Ford Escape 2011
Thank you!

It's a 2011 model- isn't it still under warranty? And don't take it to quick lube places for maintenance- why pay teenagers to mess around under the hood of your very nice car?

everybody seems to be slow on the "mark helpful" this evening...sometimes makes me wonder why I even bother with the anonymous answers...people with personality like bre and nikki trivette, and that one lady flirty mathematician are just a JOY to have met here...but anonymous people do not want to give....not even a part of their personality for enjoy~

even solved a problem for Bobkat Goldwait who lives in Florida and has a puffin the black mercedes....that I could not help~

gave him a little taste of my 120 or so oil paintings that I'd done since 1984~

he was not impressed/had more important concerns and not an art lover~
