can i use 10w 40oil in my ford escape
my dealer insists on using 10w 40 conventional oil in my 2011 ford escape
4 cylinder engine. I persuaded him to use the synthetic equivalent. Is it
correct to sue the heavier oil instead of the manufacturer suggested 5w20
synthetic. he claims the heavier oil is necessary because of the climate
which averages around 100 degrees F
Use what the owners manual says. Period. Your dealer is just trying to save themselves a couple bucks. Ambient temperature is irrelevant, you engine operates at about 180° to 200°
Unless you have very high mileage..afterthought. A higher viscosity might be reasonable, but jumping from 5W20 to 10W40 is a lot. But still synthetic regardless if that is what the owners manual says to use Example, new Toyotas demand 0W20. and synthetic tolerates heat far better than conventional oil.
