shaking after a certain speed
I just bought new tires for my 1998 540i they were balanced and aligned, i took it out for a test drive and it started shaking at a certain speed, I had them rebalance again, after taking it out on the road it continues to shake at 55 up to 67 mph the shaking does not go away it lessens as the speed is increased, could i have a bad strut?
soundd like a tire is out of round.
Agreed, also it sounds to me like they are not "on" right, by that I mean one lug tightend at a time in a round circle in star of using the "star" methed. or they are directioals put on backwards. Just because a tire is new does not mean it tracks true. Go back to the shp and have them put the car in the air and "drive" the car, if some thing is bad in the drive wheels it will show, them have a good look at the non-drive wheels. to me it sounds like a bad install or a bad tire, as long as this shaking was not there before.
thanks for the reply i did have them rotate the tires and balance them again and the shaking still is there which was not before.
Then I would say it is the tires, Take the Manager for a ride and show him the "shaking". If they are a good shop, ask them, after you get them to put the car in the air and check it, (mentioned in last post). To put a set of "used" or another set of the same tire on the car and take the Manager for a ride. If the shaking is gone it was the set of tires and tell them to warranty them (there should be no charge to you unless you put alot of milage on them). Sometimes tires sit to long or they just are not "right". Like I said if they are a good shop they will work with you. Best of luck.
