Coolant Issues

Asked by Feb 12, 2014 at 09:09 AM about the 2006 BMW 3 Series 325i Sedan RWD

Question type: Shopping & Pricing

I recently purchased a 2006 BMW 325i less than a year ago. The vehicle currently has 120,000 miles. Within the short period of time of having this vehicle I have replaced the coolant fan, thermostat, hose, water pump, and radiator. Within the past two months my car has been unable to drive because the coolant will completely leak out after driving the vehicle for 30 minutes. On short distance trips (such as going around the block) the car does not leak; but if you drive the vehicle more than 20-30 minutes after you park the car all of the coolant will completely leak out onto the pavement. I have taken my car to the BMW dealership and two other mechanics but no one can find nor fixed the problem. Will you please help…. Do you have any suggestions of what the problem may be….???

Did you replace the expansion tank? When the car gets warm and develops pressure coolant leaks out of hairline cracks on the exp tank. Get some ramps and remove the skid plate and see where/what side of the car it is leaking from. It's hard to tell when the skid plate is on and the coolant migrates along it.
