The traction control or DSC has activated and car is in limp mode. You need to have the car checked out by an independent BMW garage. Could be many things. Also check this for more info.....http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?t=620400

Could the dsc light come on due to i need a new rear shock absorber which i do or my rear tyre pressure being lower than the other which it is?

How low is the pressure in the tire, pump it up and see if your condition goes away.

Its not done it again since i turned the ognition off and on and iv drove about 40 miles and i dont know the exact pressure but you can visibly see its lower
