I have a 2003 BMW 325I. My oil light comes on only when my car is idling for a few minutes-not when I'm driving. If I press on the accelator (sp?) the light goes off. Any thoughts?

Is it yellow or red?

yellow would mean very low oil level, add ASAP. Red would indicate a oil pressure issue.

The light is red. I have already added oil, but like I said, it only comes on when the car is in idle. What does an oil pressure issue mean? Serious???

Could be serious as in not enough oil pressure from the oil pump, to a not so serious in that the oil pressure sensor is faulty. Have it checked out ASAP.

Thank you so much! I'm hoping it's a sensor problem of course!!

Any clue to the cost if the problem is the oil pump?

Oil pressure sensor is $20 plus an hour of labor to install. Oil pump is around $300 and a laborious job to replace. They rarely fail, so you should be good with just a sensor install IMO. If your not getting any noises and knocking from the engine, all should be good on the pump.
