Does tire thread make a difference in fuel economy? I know tire pressure/inflation does but what about thread?
If, you reduce the contact patch, and remove rubber material, less tread depth ..Yes, But safety and ethics SAY, NO THANKS! another marketing trick for A Prius maybe... WOW. Regards
Tread depth, tread type, inflation, tire size, wheel size and rubber hardness all cause very small differences in fuel economy. The best recommendation is run tires that are the same size as when the vehicle was manufactured and maintain proper tire pressure. I personally run about 5 or 6 psi over the pressures listed by the manufacturer. I tend to see some increase in tire life by ding this. Please note, I never go over the maximum cold inflation pressure listed on the tire sidewall and I do NOT recommend this practice to others.
