Cadillac sts 2006 will not start on first attempt.

Asked by stlsross1 Sep 21, 2016 at 10:59 AM about the 2006 Cadillac STS V6 RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

After driving my car for longer than 15 minutes,
sometimes it does not start when I shut it off and
attempt to restart it after 5 to 10 minutes.  It just
turns like it wants to start. When I push the button
a second time it starts right up. Is anyone else
having this problem and do you know what's
causing it?

My 2006 STS has the same problem. I had eighteen appointments with the Chevy dealer in town. They ultimately replaced the battery which didn't fix anything. Lately, it's been taking more than two attempts to start the car. This has been the best-running Cadillac I've had (This is my sixth), except, of course, for the extended crank. Sooo frustrating. Too bad Cadillac won't fix it as a recall. Grrrrrr.

My 2007 STS does the same thing. The battery has been replaced 6 times, mileage 114,000. The alternator has been replaced twice. It's been into the dealer several times over the years for these issues but they can never "duplicate the problem" and just replace the battery. I can say about 4 years ago they did replace a shorted fuse for the drivers side cooling feature and said that was the problem but the problem still comes back. Every time I have the battery and alternator checked they both test fine. There is something electrical that is draining the battery. I usually have to push the button 2 to 3 times to start the car but for the past two weeks I happened to not drive over the weekend and it didn't start at all the following Mondays. Had to hook it up to a quick charger for 15 minutes to get a charge on the battery to start the car. This past Monday I even needed a jump start after work to get home. It seems to be getting worse. I did another quick charge to the battery that night and it has started ok since but I don't trust it at all. I've also had the tires checked several times because the tire monitor service light comes on intermittently. There is never anything wrong with the tires. I really love this car but worrying about whether it's going to start everyday has become a hassle and the dealer has only found a problem once. For now I just plan to charge it every Sunday night and hope it gets me through the week but it may be getting traded in soon.
