Sounds like a problem with the window regulator itself. May need to get a new regulator.

try spraying some silicone lube in the window run channel first, then press the down button till the window is all the way down, hold the button down for 10 secs, it will allow the window motor module to reset itself and relearn its position. this might b all it needs. if this does not work new regularor and motor, updated versions

I have a 98 e36, same thing happens on mine. Now the drivers side window does not go down. I think there is a switch in the door lock that is worn. The switch allows the window to come down 1/4" in order to open the door. I'll be working on it this weekend and have a German friend who is a Bmw specialist

I have a 1998 325i bmw the window will not roll up or down it is stuck 3/4 of the way down. How do i make it roll up?
