Should I reset this light?

Asked by Nov 09, 2015 at 02:34 AM about the 1987 BMW 3 Series 325e

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

A few weeks ago my 87 325 bmw's
inspection light came on,  now the red one
to the right of it is on.  The inspection light
came on after I ran out of gas. I got an oil
change about two months ago. Should I be
concerned?  What exactly do these green,
yellow, and red lights mean?  And can I
reset it without being concerned?

I think you should ask your favorite competent BMW mechanic to check your car over to see if there's anything that needs repairing- it is an old car and there very well might be something wrong-

That light is for inspection. BMW has their Inspection I and Inspection II, which include various maintenance procedures such as air filter, oil change, chassis lubrication, etc. It is also for oil changes. Read up on it in your manual. There should be a way you can reset the light so can you do that when you do an oil change.

Thanks a lot guys, you've been very helpful. I already got an oil change, but I do keep forgetting to check the filter. I don't actuality know a certified mechanic, but one of my friends is in training to work at the dealership here. I'll probably just run her up there after I change my belts sometime this month.
