Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Anyone here ever have to change a starter for a 1987 bmw 325e?  I just ordered one from www.bavauto.com. great place to get parts.  A bit pricy, but better than the dealer. Any suggestions on how to change this part and concerns?  Also, I have those lights on the dash )green green green green, yellow, red)  Does anyone know how or what those mean?  Mine is usually yellow.  Thanks - Rudy

Check on an E30 or BMW forums under E30 chassis model or just buy a R. Bentley service manual. You may try Pelican Parts Technical for write ups. The green lights mean how much life left on the oil before change. I believe the red is for engine service. You can either use a Peak tool to reset the lights or you can use a wire or paper clip and you ground two pins together in the round diagnostic plug in the engine bay. I forget which number pins, maybe 7 and 19, but you'll have to search on the net for specific info. Typically you ground the two pins, then turn the key to position 2 (do not start) for ten seconds to reset the oil light and any longer will reset the engine service light.
