What do they call trunk lid shock absobers?

Asked by Mar 26, 2014 at 07:41 PM about the 2011 Ford Taurus SEL

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The two shock trunk lid absorbers on my wife's 2011 Taurus no longer work and I want to replace them. I have searched for these, but apparently I am using the wrong name. How/ where do I find replacements and how are they removed and replaced?

They're just called lift supports. You can find them online at a decent price. They are specific to the vehicle as far as size, so make sure you get the correct ones. Typically they come off by removing a snap clip where it attaches at both ends. It's a ball/socket type fitting. Once the spring clip is removed apply pressure pulling it or use a screw driver padded with a rag and pry it off.

Mark First time using cargurus. Much better than paying list price for the parts and $75 per hour to install them which I can do myself Thanks. Ron the Model T Ignition Coilman
