I have problems starting my 2011 KIA Sorento?

Asked by Aug 08, 2016 at 08:33 AM about the 2011 Kia Sorento EX

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My Kia Sorento sometimes doesn't start right away. Sometimes it take 6 trys
before the engine turn over. The electrical works, the battery is brand new
and their are no noises when it doesn't turn-over.

Could be something as simple as a loose wire between the battery and the starter motor (or a loose ground wire on the starter motor)

I have the same problem but now I'm stuck. It's the computer chip in the truck doesn't recognize the key. I think that will cost me! Not at all impressed

I have a 2016 KIA Sorento with the same intermittent problem. The first diagnosis from the Dealer replaced the alternator under warranty. Dealer said the battery only had 600CCA. That is more than enough to crank an engine over. After the replacement, the car has had two more instances where it would not start, battery voltage was 12.5V, better that measured on my older Toyota 12.3V which started. First time five tries, on the sixth time it started. The second time six tries would not start, for my wife. Several hours later I was able to look at the car, battery voltage measured 12.6V, and it started. This seems to be a continual problem with the basic electrical design of the KIA Sorento. I am unhappy with this un-reliability of the car. Francis

Not providing an answer per say, rather a follow-up on the third KIA Service, for same problem: "CAR NOT STARTING". KIA now says the problem is related to the AIR BAG LIGHT which came on. The diagnostic "Unrealized 95910 C6000: MODULE AIR ASSY-AIR BAGPASSENGER RESISTANCE CIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND B136300 PRETENSIONER FRONT DRIVER RESISTANCECIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND. ORDERED AIRBAG MODULE. WILL REPLACE WHEN PART ARRIVES. ALL WORK BEING PERFORMED UNDER WARRANTY
