why is my rear axle stuck? can't remove it

Asked by Oct 12, 2012 at 05:58 PM about the 2010 GMC Sierra 1500 Work Truck 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I removed c-clips from rear end but axle won't come down at all. Feels like something is holding it back. Afraid to hit it or use pry bar. I've never encountered this problem before. I'm trying to remove differential and replace with posi-traction on my 2010 GMC Sierra pickup.

c-clip is in the carrier. Maybe the anti-lock ring that sits on the axle is somehow a problem.
