My alternator dropped voltage and I replaced it. I disconnected the battery changed the alternator and now it wont start, everything works except that it will not start. The starter will not engage, I took the starter off and it is working just fine. Any ideas?
Could be the battery have you tested that to see if that's the issue? Make sure all the cables to the battery, start and alternator everything is hooked up correctly i did the something and forgot one wire and wouldn't charge or car would die when driving If battery is good could be an electrical problem :(
Check battery voltage, should be 12.4vdc. If battery is good and still won't turn over, check all battery cables for corrosion and make sure they're tight. If all cables are ok, check for voltage at the starter solenoid small terminal. If voltage is present and still no crank, replace starter
I have checked the battery, and replaced the starter and still no luck. Everything is working except that it wont crank, it may be the safety kill switch that has been affected, does anyone know how to manually reset it so that it will crank again?
That's the reason I wrote the steps above so you're not just guessing and throwing parts at it. If you had voltage at the starter small terminal then the safety neutral switch is good. Try rotating engine manually from crankshaft pulley to make sure it's not locked up
Check voltage at the starter solenoid small terminal if no voltage while you're trying to start it, it might be the safety neutral switch, it's located on the transmission on driver's side
