Why does my drive gear no longer work?

Asked by js514 Apr 11, 2016 at 11:11 AM about the 2010 Nissan Murano LE AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2010 Nissan Murano. I gave someone a boost to get their car started. At first the positive cable was put on the negative and it gave off a spark. We then put cables on correctly. the other vehicle started. then 2 hours later I went to the bank with the car still on. When I got back into the car i noticed the service engine light was on then when I put the gear in reverse it would not move. I tried twice and then it went into reverse and then into drive but as I was leaving out the drive no longer worked. The cars engine stayed on the drive and reverse does nothing. I had the car towed to my home. Previously I NEVER had any trouble or indication that something was wrong with the vehicle. the service engine light remains on and the car starts up fine as ussual  but shifting the gears into drive and reverse does nothing The car has 80,000 miles. Ive had it for 2 years. Does anyone have suggestions?

Ok, if you shorted ghe trasmisdion range sensor as a direct result of negligence, you need your tranny serviced if you did not connect the black side wire from your car to the body of the dead car, the spark you typed about would have blown a fuse, there are fusible links on the power side of your battery, see that strip on ghe side under the red pos cap, a new one costs 20.00 on ebay.
