2010 accent is sputtering and check engine light came on ; i checked the oil and it is low could that be the problem?

Not likely. But HOW low? You need an OBD scan since the CEL is on to point you in the right direction...misfire on cylinder X.....(Um friendly suggestion, check your oil once a week at least)

It was just a hair pass the low mark, i put a guart of oil in and some seafoam in the gas tank sounds some better and taking it tonigh to get oil changed and check the light that is on. do you think that could have been it? someone told me that nowadays newer cars just about shut down in oil in low.

Like it was suggested, Get the computer scanned. It's a simple thing that can help isolate the problem before it can cause more problems. You ask the question, the advise given to you was the best.
