My check engine light came on and the car won't stay on without giving it gas

Asked by Feb 25, 2017 at 03:39 PM about the 2005 Ford Focus ZX4 S

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I tried turning on my car this morning but it would
instantly turn off if no gas is given to it...When I
finally got it to start it would stop while
driving...Can any point me in the right direction as
to what I need to do?

The check engine light on is telling you a fault code is stored in memory. So you need to scan the car for the codes and that will help you determine what is causing your issue. At this point it sounds like you have to borrow or purchase a scan tool to pull the codes since the car won't stay running. See if one of your friends has one. Look for an obi scan tool. $20 on amazon
