Alignment causing me to fail inspection

Asked by GuruD41GJK Jul 18, 2023 at 01:39 PM about the 2010 Toyota Highlander Base

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My alignment test from the inspection says that i have a convergence of -30.6
on driver side and 0 on passenger...it won't pass inspection. What does that
even mean?

You should check your state inspection laws , An alignment may not be part of the inspection , Why would they go ahead with an alignment ? ?

This is right out of the book. This is the angle between the plane in which the wheel rotates and the direction of motion. It ensures the correct position of the front wheels of the car at different speeds and angles of rotation. Most often, the convergence is regulated by changing the length of the side rods of the steering wheel.

Visit a local reputable service facility and get a four wheel alignment. Then go back to the inspection station, with your receipt, and let them inspect the vehicle again. If it fails again, demand to speak to the supervisor and refuse to move your vehicle until you do. They can't argue with your receipt! Sometimes they will try anything to get an older vehicle off the road! I've had many fights with so called "inspectors" over the years. Most of the time I won! Hope that helps! Jim
