Is it worth it to be a K&N Air filter in a tdi
they sound quite good.but changing just the air filter will not do anything for sound. you need the high flow pipe with the cone stlye air filter.
Sound is nothing. What about fuel economy and power?
I get about 34 in the city and bout 43 on hwy
Thats a little weak for a TDI. I average 43.
Putting a high-end filter like K&N will do very little if anything to improve performance and mileage compared to a good filter such as Fram. To make any real difference you would want to completely re-do the intake system up to the throttle body. You can get kits from about $50 to close to $700. I couldn't find any specifically for your vehicle so if this is something you want to do your best option would be to build your own from components available at Autozone and O'reilly. Be sure to avoid hot areas, such as the exhaust manifold. Running the system through these areas and especially placing the filter in one of these areas will defeat the purpose of the system, which is to bring cooler, denser air into the engine.
I put one in my "96 Passat TDI and am getting 48.1 average over 3 years.
