2010 Escape Rear Hatch Failure

Asked by Apr 15, 2015 at 11:32 AM about the 2010 Ford Escape XLS

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2010 Escape's rear door will no longer open. Pushing the release button gets a faint
sound, but no release. The glass opens. Can this hatch be "jimmied" open from inside--
and how easy is it to fix/replace the lock-? The Ford dealer "advisor" rubbed his hands in
glee and promised it would be "a couple hundred" to fix. Nahhh. Thanks--Buzz

Sounds like latch actuator failed or latched sticking,to much resistance.
