I'd suggest geting on actual GTI forums and reading up on other peoples mods/projects and talk to the people on there. That's gonna give you the best ideas for what you can do, what it'll cost, and how it'll affect the car or any trade offs caused by a mod.

One of the first things to look at is an ECU reflash. This can significantly increase performance and even economy and provides a quick bang for the buck. CAT back exhaust and intake upgrades can really round out the package without breaking the bank. Definitely join a forum and get involved with the VW tuning community. For example, the MYFASTGTI forum. The 2.0T is a wonderful motor and has a huge aftermarket parts availability. Enjoy!

APR all day. I had APR stage 2 on my Mk6 GTI and now I have it on my A5 2.0T. Almost 100 more HP for $1000. Now I'm saving up for APR's K04 turbo kit which will put me right on par with an S4 or S5 in terms of straight line speed. The K04 is $3400. Check out goapr.com
