Asked by Jan 21, 2016 at 06:50 AM about the 2010 Chevrolet Impala LT

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2010 Chevy Impala... For about a week my
car won't heat heat up, the gauge is at cold, also it
doesn't blow heat or anything.. The check engine
light is on and It says "turn A/C off engine
overheating" a friend of mine says it's the
thermostat but I just want to be sure. What do you
guys think.

If that temperature gauge is not climbing up to just half way, good indication that the thermostat needs replacing.

You may have to replace the temperature sending unit also, do the thermostat first.

I would agree with the thermostat for a no heat problem, but I think you have more going on here than just a thermostat issue, your getting an overheat warning also, so the first thing to check is the coolant level cold engine, refill with coolant if low, if it is low that could be your no heat issue, next is find out what code is in the computer system that has the check engine light on, and hope you don't have a blown head gasket. After those problems have been addressed the turn A/C off should no longer turn on.

That thermostat temp. sender unit can be the root cause of many codes. That and the 02 sensor tells the ECM how to adjust all other sensors.
