Could someone welding in the rain (water everywhere) right next to our car have corrupted the ECU.

Asked by Oct 30, 2014 at 08:20 PM about the 2010 Saab 9-3 SportCombi Base

Question type: General

Hi, whilst driving slowly up the M1 in the UK in the  rain (storm) through some road
works, the engineers were welding (yes in the rain) and as we passed them there was
a VERY large flash, outside the car about 3-4 feet from the car, instantly all the
computerized dash, lights etc switched off, they came back on a few seconds later
but over the last two weeks this got worst, until the car would not even unlock, forget
move. The local Saab garage ended up reprogramming the two computers at a cost of
£120, fingers crossed the car has been OK for 3 days now. May question is could it
have been the welding as it was at the exact split second of the flash.David
