i have a water pump broken on my 1999 subaru outback i have a water pump
from a 2010 is it the same and if not is it the same from 2001 or 2002?

The 2010 water pump is a no. The 2001-2002 are the same and look like the water pump on a 1999 2.5L....If you have the 3.0L engine, then no, you would have to purchase it for the 1999.

You would have to compare the water pumps at the parts store for a 1999 and 2001-2002 to be sure.

1999 only shows forester, impreza, and legacy. It also only shows the 2.2 and 2.5.

Walth is correct. So is Auto-centric. IOW the old DOHC 2.5i (1996-1999) IS different from the SOHC 2.5i (2000+).
